One of the most common questions for seniors is: Is the 9-wood a good replacement for a 5-iron? With reduced swing speed (75-90 mph), the 9-wood is often the more forgiving option—higher trajectory, easier to launch, more forgiving sweet spot. Carry distances typically range from 130 to 145 meters.
The critical question, however, is not "does it replace?", but "from when?". Those who still hit 7 out of 10 shots cleanly with the 5-iron don't care about anything else — the spin rate and low trajectory help in wind and on hard greens. However, those who only hit 4 out of 10 cleanly lose numerically 2-3 strokes per round — and this is precisely where switching to the 9-wood becomes score-relevant.
What's it like for you all? What's your success rate when you've swapped, and which model has proven itself in your bag? I'm particularly interested in experiences with carry distances from the ground versus off the tee — I often have a gap of 10–15 meters there that I don't quite understand yet.
