Putts under 6.5 feet have to go in, putts over 30 feet are all about tempo practice. But the range in between 4 and 8 mThere's a score killer there that most senior stats don't show cleanly. For me, that was the issue in the last few rounds: no 3-putt drama from 40 feet, but lost strokes on 20-foot putts.
Classic drills (Pelz distance ladder, Tour-Lag 9/12/15 m) do not cover the 4–8 m range. I’m currently testing my own drill with a target zone (50 cm radius), 5 balls from 4 / 6 / 8 m, target ratio 60 / 40 / 30 %. Initial results: 4 m is doable, 6 m becomes trial and error, 8 m is purely a matter of speed.
How do you putt in this range? Do you still look at the hole or just the speed? And what percentage are you honestly expecting from 4-8 m? I'm interested in real numbers, not wishful thinking.
