30 to 100 yards from the pin — that's the senior score-busting zone. Strokes Gained analyses clearly show: this is where the biggest leverage lies from 60 yards on, greater than any driver distance gain. But: full swing with a softer wedge (W56°, W60°) or half swing with a firmer one (PW, W52°)? That's the distance question I'm currently working on.
My own findings after 4 rounds: PW full is the most inaccurate club choice for me (Σ -2.90 SG in the last tournament on Wendlohe Course C). 4 out of 5 shots negative — either too far, too short, or both. On the other hand: 60° half swing for 25-30 m yields +0.58 SG. This means: my senior swing consistency works better with shorter swing ranges.
How is it with you? Do you have a Half Swing Distance Chart pro Wedge (9-3, 10-2, 11-1 o'clock)? And which loft provides you with the most reliable distance at 50-70 m? I'm interested in concrete sigma values or hit rates.
