THE MAGAZINE

About the magazine

The Senior Golf Magazine: data-driven, ad-free, evidence-based. No tour pro tips, but measurable levers for seniors. Compiled practical experience for amateurs.

MISSION

Why this Senior Golf magazine exists

Senior golfers aged 60 and over are the fastest-growing demographic in golf. Nevertheless, most training and equipment materials are geared towards younger players — shaft specifications for 105 mph swing speeds, swing mechanics tips from tour pros, training drills from college golf. This doesn't work at 75-90 mph and demonstrably costs strokes.

This senior golf magazine exists to fill that exact gap: data-driven content, evidence-based recommendations, and honest reviews, all tailored to the specific conditions of those aged 60 and over. Sources include TrackMan, the USGA World Handicap System, peer-reviewed Sports MedicineDGSP, ACSM) and over 5,000 personal data points from daily training and match practice.

Ad-free. Without affiliate links. Without a paywall. The posts are written the way the author would like to read them themselves: concrete, measurable, and without marketing myths.

About the Maker

Mathias Struwe, 68 years old, current HCPI 31.0 with a clear goal of 25.0. In senior golf mode for three years – since retirement, when else – and since then with an uncompromising data focus on my own game: every round is evaluated (Strokes Gained), every practice session is documented, and every club change is justified with launch monitor data.

From over 5,000 personal data points, I'm learning what truly makes me a better senior golfer. I'm looking internationally for research, studies, and tools that are truly relevant for players over 60 – and sharing what works. And what doesn't.

The Four Values of Senior Golf Magazine

1. Data-driven, not gut feeling

Every contribution is based on TrackMan data, peer-reviewed studies, USGA or R&A statistics, or our own 30-shot samples. „I believe it” or „it sounds logical” is not enough — what cannot be measured does not make it into the magazine.

2. Designed for 75–90 mph

Senior swing speed is between 75 and 90 mph. Tour pro tips at 105 mph don't work for us. All content in the magazine is explicitly written and tested for this speed range.

3. Ad-free and without affiliate links

No product recommendations with a commission background. No banner ads. No hidden sponsored content. If a product is recommended, it's because it convinced us in our own bag test — not because a manufacturer paid for it.

4. No paywall, no mandatory subscription

All contributions will remain freely accessible. Those who want the newsletter will receive it for free. Those who want to participate in the community do not need a paid membership. Data-driven senior golf knowledge should be accessible to everyone.

Methodology & Sources

Main sources that the content of Senior Golf Magazine is based on:

  • TrackMan Swing data, distance statistics, senior distance benchmarks
  • United States Golf Association — Distance Insights Report, World Handicap System, Equipment Standards
  • German Golf Association — HCP System, Team Play, Senior Tee Regulations
  • German Society for Sports Medicine — Senior Athletics, Recovery, Injury Prevention
  • ACSM — Strength training over 60, sarcopenia, load management
  • British Journal of Sports Medicine Methodology, statistical significance, training effect measurement
  • 5,000+ internal data points from daily tracking (Strokes Gained, launch monitor sessions, putt tests, wedge calibrations)

Where personal data is used, it is transparently marked. Where external sources are cited, there is always a direct link to the original study or dataset.
