Rangefinder or GPS<\/h2>\n
A laser rangefinder measures the distance to the flagstick. A GPS device shows the distance to the front and back of the green. Both are permitted by default under Rule 4.3a(6). Those who know their own club distances select the appropriate club based on the measured distance to the flagstick.<\/p>\n
Memorizing through deliberate practice<\/h2>\n
The most sustainable solution: a few targeted range sessions where you cleanly calibrate your own median distances per club and then consciously memorize them. In a private training session, a casual practice round with friends, or a casual match without handicap implications, anyone can label, sticker, or mark their clubs however they wish\u2014nobody checks, nobody issues penalties. However, as soon as a Tournament<\/strong> applies (HCP-relevant or tournament), the rule applies uncompromisingly. A single non-conforming club in the bag \u2014 even if it's not used for the entire round \u2014 can lead to a warning depending on the interpretation; a single stroke with it can lead to disqualification. Those who want to experiment with markings should store two sets in the bag room \u2014 one for private use, one for scoring.<\/p>\n\n
